Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence recently revealed that she talks to her therapist about “nightmares” that she has over Fox News host Tucker Carlson and the influence he’s had on her estranged family members.
“Maybe it’s the sexy glasses,” Carlson deadpanned about the mention. “Who knows, we can only speculate.”
In the September 8 episode of “Reality Camp” with Stacey Campfield, the host shared his views on a slew of topics, most notably Lawrence’s recent interview where she namedropped Carlson as someone she sees in her “nightmares.”
Lawrence mentioned in the October issue of Vogue that Carlson has an influence on her conservative family members in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, adding that the “information they are getting is different,” and that “their life is different.”
Carlson addressed the mention on air, saying: “When you decide to work in television, you lose control of a lot of things. Foremost, the way other people perceive you. So can it really be your fault, are you really responsible, if major Hollywood starlets dream about you?”
The Oscar Winner, a former Republican, said her family was divided over the 2016 election of Donald Trump, and the wounds that she’s been trying to repair since then were ripped once again in June due to the Supreme Court’s reversal of the historic Roe v. Wade abortion rights case.
Lawrence, who was then pregnant, was among the many who took to the streets to protest the decision and said her disappointment was directed at certain relatives, with whom she previously tried to reconcile since the arrival of her son, Cy.
“I just worked so hard in the last five years to forgive my dad and my family and try to understand. It’s different. The information they are getting is different. Their life is different,” she said.
“I’ve tried to get over it and I really can’t. I can’t. I’m sorry I’m just unleashing, but I can’t f— with people who aren’t political anymore. You live in the United States of America. You have to be political. It’s too dire. Politics are killing people.” (Related: Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, sending issue of abortion back to states where it always belonged.)
While Carlson did not delve into the political topics Lawrence discussed other than his initial quip and saying that he’s “flattered,” he instead left it up to correspondent Trace Gallagher to highlight the “dichotomy” of Lawrence’s remarks.
“It’s important to note that while Jennifer Lawrence sees you in her head at night, she’s likely not watching you now. But her parents are probably watching you because they’re fans,” Gallagher said.
Lawrence has always been an outspoken critic of conservatives and Trump. She doubled down on her views and also shared her thoughts on abortion rights and gun laws.
However, as Gallagher pointed out, Lawrence had “Trump derangement syndrome.” In 2017, the actor made headlines for blaming the former president for a series of hurricanes.
“Apparently, side effects include blaming a sitting president for hurricanes hitting the U.S. mainland during hurricane season,” the Hill media reporter Joe Concha said at the time.
He was referring to Lawrence’s interview with the British network, Channel 4, where she said it was scientifically proven that climate change is due to human activity, and people continue to ignore it. She also added that it was “really startling” to see Trump win the presidency. “Why is it that as people get richer and more famous, sometimes they get sillier and more out of touch?” Carlson asked back then, eventually concluding that “being a celebrity is bad for your soul.”
