As the 2016 election grinds on through its final days, it is almost impossible to recall how many famous, sort of famous, and working-their-way-to-famous celebrities from entertainment and sports have promised threatened to leave America if Donald Trump is elected. When they aren’t doing that they’re still barking political opinions as if the common folk need to hear them merely to stay alive.

In light of all that, the few who have decided to break away from the cacophonous herd probably deserve some extra applause.
The tone of the Esquire article is one of incredulity over the fact that any celebrity is choosing to remain neutral in this election, as if celebrity itself were about to face an existential crisis after November 8th.
Any celebrity who has ever championed a cause, written, or wrote, or performed any work of any actual substance relating to life in this country has something at stake here.
I seemed to have missed the proclamation from Donald Trump that he would ban famous people if elected. If he did happen to do so, I will immediately begin work on a list of suggestions for him.
The author took the time to tally up the total social media numbers for each celebrity mentioned, as if all of the undecided voters who need to be swayed are hanging out on Facebook. I’m sure that the billion or so 12 year old girls who are following Taylor Swift on Twitter are as happy as the adults are that she’s not polluting her timeline by with any “I’m With Her” garbage.
There is also a speculation as to the party affiliation of each celeb mentioned. They could all be sporting “Hope” poster and “I Love Obamacare” tattoos for all I care at this point. Their silence in an election that has been noisier than a jet engine at ear level is sweet, sweet relief.
In the past several decades it has been a rough go for any entertainers who dared stray from the Democrat fold. Now the chattering classes not only demand devotion to a particular ideology, but very vocal support of it as well.
No thanks, I’ll be over here binge watching Dwayne Johnson movies and listening to Miranda Lambert.
