Kanye West had a breakdown because he altered his mind-altering medications

In case you haven’t been following the mental ups and downs of the latest entertainer to enter rehab, we’ll catch you up: It’s rapper Kanye West, husband of Kim Kardashian, whose main claim to fame seems to be her derrière and uncanny ability to mess up the lives of the numerous men she is involved with.

In recent weeks, West has been hospitalized, reportedly for mental health issues following his wife’s robbery in Paris at the hands of armed gunmen. According to the UK’s Daily Mail, West had a breakdown after altering what can only be described as mind-altering medications. The Daily Mail was citing a report from entertainment magazine TMZ.

Messing with his medications

West, 39, entered the UCLA Medical Center on Nov. 10; it took eight days for doctors there to stabilize him with a steady concoction of drugs. And now that he’s been released from the hospital, it is up to him to make sure that he follows up on doctors’ orders and continue to take his medications. It’s not clear what sort of mental health issues he was having or what psychological issues remain.

However, the Daily Mail noted that either the rapper and designer went completely off his medications or began taking fewer of them once his wife – star of the reality series Keeping Up with the Kardashians – began experiencing understandable anxiety following her robbery, in which she said she was tied up and gagged for more than 45 minutes by between three and five men, and threatened with a gun.

Last week, Us Weekly reported that the couple have begun living apart. However, rather than go home to his family, West has chosen to stay in a rental house “while receiving outpatient treatment.”

The Mail, citing a source that spoke to People magazine, said that West was “receiving outpatient care” with doctors. The source added that his wife “seems concerned but is supportive. They don’t know for how long Kanye will need outpatient care.”

Revelations about West’s self-altered mental health issues come after reports about their strained marriage following the robbery drama broke. Since that time, West’s behavior has reportedly become more and more erratic. He became prone to angry outbursts during concert appearances, before cancelling all remaining concert dates left on his Life of Pablo tour.

The self-inflicted angst came to a head about two weeks ago, during a breakdown in which he was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center handcuffed to an ambulance gurney. He spent 10 days there being treated for exhaustion and sleep deprivation, the Daily Mail noted. One source told Us Weekly that the robbery had taken a huge toll on the marriage even before West’s breakdown reached its peak. “It’s just been hell for them,” the source said. “Kanye’s behavior took a huge toll on their marriage.”

Chances of more angry outbursts and breakdowns likely while West remains in the grip of Big Pharma

The source said that Kardashian is relieved that he’s finally getting some professional help – though by all indications, he’s still taking mood-altering psychotropic medications, based on various reports. That can only mean one thing: He is liable to once again have mental health issues, simply because that is the nature of such medications.

Still, Kardashian “thinks this is what it will take to save him — and help their marriage,” the source said, adding that friends and relatives are “trying to pitch in” to help the couple out and “relieve some of that and everything she’s going through.”

Kardashian reportedly spent much of her time staying with her husband, but reports said she never brought their kids – North, 3, and Saint, 11 months – to the hospital, because she was worried about West being around them.

So much drama, so little time, when it comes to Big Pharma and psychotropic, mood-altering medications. We haven’t heard the last of this “breakdown.”
