Actor Kurt Russell has been around Hollywood for a long time. From his debut as a fresh-faced teenage star for 1960s Disney productions to his recurring role as Snake Plissken in the post-apocalyptic cult flicks Escape from New York and Escape from L.A., Russell is a Tinseltown veteran.
But unlike many Hollywood figures, he doesn’t parrot the liberal agenda, especially when it comes to the subject of the right to own guns.
In a recent interview, self-avowed libertarian Russell rejected Hollywood reporter Jeffrey Wells’ assertions about “gun culture” and the idea that Americans live in fear of “day-to-day” mass violence.
“If you think gun control is going to change the terrorists’ point of view, I think you’re, like, out of your mind,” he said.
When Wells argued that those on no-fly lists were still able to obtain weapons “pretty easily,” Russell replied, “They can also make a bomb pretty easily. So what? They can also get knives and stab you. [What are you] gonna do about that? They can also get cars and run you over. [What are you] gonna do about that? [What are you] gonna do? Outlaw everything?”
His response to Wells’ suggestion that the government should “put some controls” in place was, “Put some controls? What, so the people, so the people who want to defend themselves can’t?”
It’s refreshing to hear someone in Hollywood speaking common sense for a change, isn’t it?
